Temporary Closure Of Yallakool Tourist Park
Council regrets to advise that it has had to temporarily close the Yallakool Tourist Park on the foreshores of Bjelke-Petersen Dam.

The closure has been brought about by an inability to source suitable drinking water at the present location for the operation of the Park. This has been caused by the current drought, but Council is hopeful that the Park will re-open in the foreseeable future when adequate rainfalls replenish water stocks.

Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by this closure. We look forward to welcoming visitors back to this wonderful recreation facility as soon as the current water situation improves.

Photo: Yallakool Tourist Park - during normal seasons - is one of the finest inland waterways in Queensland. At present, however, the drought has lowered dam levels to less than 3% of total capacity and made sourcing fresh drinking water unviable.

Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme
The State Government has recently announced that they'll be operating a second stage of their Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme.

The new stage offers all Queensland householders cash rebates for a number of water-saving devices purchased between 16th August 2006 and 30th June 2009. Rebateable items include shower heads, rainwater tanks, dual-flush toilet systems, water-efficient clothes washers, swimming pool covers/rollers and grey water systems.

The Department of Natural Resources and Water’s website offers a number of fact sheets designed to inform householders of the conditions and eligibility for claims the rebate. The DNR’s Home WaterWise.section can be viewed by clicking here.

Residents should note that that these rebates are offered by the State Government, so application forms should be sent to the Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme office in Brisbane. Council nonetheless encourages all householders to take advantage of this scheme, which will help conserve our Shire's valuable water resources in the future.

Murgon Town Supply
Water Restrictions

Updated 23 January 2008: Ongoing drought conditions have resulted in the water level of the Bjelke-Petersen Dam falling to less than 3% capacity.

As the dam is the town water supply source, Council has had to further consider water usage levels and in accordance with its Drought Management Policy impose the following restrictions:

  • Watering on Mondays is banned altogether
  • A total ban on sprinklers, micro irrigation and spray systems now applies
  • All premises may water on the designated days shown below with hand-held hoses between the hours of 7.00am - 9.00am and 4.00pm - 6.00pm
  • FOR GARDEN USE ONLY
